9 Temples in Bangkok That You Can Visit in a Day
Visiting temples in Thailand is usually a must for travelers in order to experience the rich culture of the old Siam. The “Wats” or temples are a sacred place in Buddhism and majority of Thais are Buddhist. They usually go to a temple every day and sometimes go to 7 to 9 temples in a day especially on special occasions such as New Year (1st January), Thai New Year (13th April), and their birthdays. The good news is… as a tourist, you can also do this!
Even though visiting 9 temples may sound a lot, it is totally doable! You just need to plan and prepare for a long day of visiting a temple to another. Some people organize a trip by themselves, while some people buy a tour. Most of the trips are to visit 9 temples in the provinces nearby Bangkok. But if you are already in Bangkok there are 9 temples which are not so far from each other and you can visit all of them in a day.
The first 6 temples that are located on the side of Chao Phraya River are Wat Saket, Wat Suthat, Wat Bowornniwet, Wat Chana Songkhram, Wat Phra Kaew, and Wat Pho. And then if you cross the river, you can go Wat Kalayanamit, Wat Arun, and Wat Rakhang respectively.
If you want to do a day trip to visit these temples in a day, we do recommend you to either rent a car or book a taxi, and start a day early. As a rule of thumb in any temples — dress properly. No short pants and sleeveless. Most importantly, bring and drink lots of water.
Although, if you are a slow traveler like myself, who wants to spend time at each temple — this is not for you.
