Some may be so much off the wall that you will not be able to bring yourself to taste it – even as an experiment.
Insects of different types cooked in different ways are popular in Thailand.
Here are some common insect based dishes:
- Grasshoppers are the most favorite snack. They are either sauteed or deep fried and seasoned with chili powder. You will find them being sold all along the streets of Bangkok.
- Crickets, maggots and water bugs are steamed wrapped in banana leaves and eaten with tangy and spicy sauce and seasoning.
- Silk worms are also eaten as a fried snack.
- Stink bugs smell stinky as the name suggests, but the taste is quite good. These are fried and often eaten as the main course.
Not all the strange foods of Thailand are gross. You can try a few delicacies to complete your Thai experience.
