Nihon Saisei Sakaba: Your Newest Izakaya in Sukhumvit Soi 26!
A popular neighborhood among Japanese expats – Sukhumvit Soi 26, is the birthplace of the first Nihon Saisei Sakaba in Bangkok. Thais living in the city, specifically Bangkok, go to Izakaya to indulge in yakitori and sake. But the in Japan, izakaya is also known for offering more than skewed chicken and rice-based drink. Some restaurant also offers motsuyaki or known as grilled pig offal.
Offal is considered a delicacy in the island country where Nihon Saisei Sakaba thrives in its 22 outlets across Japan. Hidden in the back streets of Shinjuku is the busiest branch where you can find offal or motsuyaki lovers enjoying this delicacy and finishing it by gulping down with sake.
Bangkok’s first Nihon Saisei Sakaba is now open and ready to offer the same offal experience as in Japan is brought by the same folks who introduced Bangkok to the Japanese bath culture at Yunomori Onsen.
As you enter the restaurant, you will be welcomed with wooden facade decorated with dark blue noren (fabric divider) and white paper lanterns. It also features intimate table seating and a bar area that allows the guests to listen to meat cuts sizzling on the smoky grill.
Selections in the menu include more palatable items like short rib (89฿), liver (฿39) and heart (฿35) to more exotic ingredients like upper stomach (฿49), diaphragm (฿59), pharynx (79฿) and bronchus (฿79). Some guest favourite— marinated in teriyaki sauce to mask any unfamiliar tastes is the rectum (฿35). No wonder everything was grilled to perfection, tender and juicy it is because the cooks are well-trained and were sent to work in Nihon Saiseisakaba’s Japanese outlets for months to ensure that these organs are perfectly prepared and lack any unpleasant smell.
If this delicacy is not for you, fret not! The menu also has offal-free dishes like grilled chicken breast topped with fish roe (฿49), wasabi (฿39) or salted plum (฿39). Apart from grilled offerings, this Izakaya also has braised pork tongue in umami broth (฿159) and boiled intestines—so delicious that it will make you think why you haven’t tried this before!
Nihon Saiseisakaba is located in Warehouse 26, Soi Sukhumvit 26, Khlong Toei, Bangkok.
