Baiyoke Sky Hotel was, when it was completed in 1997, the tallest building in the world. Nowadays it is “only” the tallest building in Thailand. Standing 328 meters tall with 85 floors and 673 rooms, not counting the many facilities, it dominates the Bangkok skyline.
In beautiful settings with lawns, lotus ponds and majestic trees, the old Sukhothai Historical Park was the capital of the kingdom of Sukhothai (Dawn of Happiness).
Founded in 1238, Sukhothai was the first unified kingdom of Thailand. The kingdom flourished for 200 years until being taken over by Ayutthaya.
The historical park in Sukhothai, along with historic parks in Kamphang Phet and Si Satchanalai, are on UNESCO’s list over World Heritage sites and are some of the major tourist attractions in Thailand.
Tuk tuks (so named because of the distinctive sound they make with their two stroke engine) are probably the most famous means of transportation in Bangkok among tourists. “Everybody” wants to at least try it when they visit. It’s a must do on their list of things to do while in town. Many try it once and then never again.

The “Amaze me Thailand Photo Contest” round 2 is a even bigger success than the first round. We have received 148 photos and 59 entrants. So many people sharing their best pictures from the greatest destination on earth, that is just amazing! Thank…
The belief amongst Thai Buddhists is that monks are the most likely people to reach enlightenment. Monks follow a very strict code of conduct, an existence with no material attachments whatsoever. A Thai monk’s life is based around the 5 major precepts of Thai Buddhism and 227 monastic rules they must abide by, including no lies, no sex, no killing and no alcohol.
One of my favorite places to go shopping in Bangkok is the wholesale shopping market in Pratunam. The market stretches from Petchaburi Road to Baiyoke Sky Hotel along the sidewalks and into the myriad of tiny alleys branching off in any direction. It consists of hundreds of street stalls and small shops peddling anything related to clothes and accessories and a whole lot more.
